About Amrop Portugal – History

The Portuguese office was established in 1988 and is one of the leading executive search firms in Portugal. We were pioneers in the organization of a research department and in the implementation of the direct search methodology. We have been involved in more than 1.500 assignments, for top and middle management levels. Our experience reflects extensive knowledge of all industries and functional areas.

1977 – Establishment of Amrop, an international group of Executive Search firms located in America and Europe (AM–ROP).

1986 – Amrop decides to extend its international presence to the Iberia peninsula.

1987 – A task force led by Jean Pierre Leguay (head of the Paris Office, and one of the founders of the Group) analysed the Portuguese market. Even though there were some obstacles, considering the scarcity of executive search in the market, Amrop decides to start up an operation in Portugal. Claude dos Reis (Partner of the Paris office) was responsible for finding an adequate partner in our country.

1988 – Establishment of Amrop Portugal by Maria da Glória Ribeiro (Founder and Managing Partner). Her first task was to identify another Consultant, and to recruit and train the first Researcher. During the first years, the Portuguese operation reported to the French office, under the name “Sirca Portugal”.

1991 – Under the sponsorship of the Brazilian partners, who formally presented our firm to the International Board, we became an official branch of the group and started operating under the name “Amrop”.

1994 – Group’s initiative for Quality certification, with the establishment of a set of qualitative common procedures. Certification of the Portuguese Office (ISO 9002).

2000 – Merger between Amrop International and The Hever Group (The Amrop Hever Group), with the purpose of increasing the group’s international coverage and consolidating its presence in developed and emerging markets.

2008 – 20th anniversary of Amrop in Portugal.

2010 – Amrop’s new brand is launched, following an international alignment process.
